Downes Shoes is a Fortitude Valley cult classic having been there for as long as anyone living can remember, and at 120 years old, word has it there's also a resident ghost living upstairs. Current owner Barry has been upholding the Downes legacy for the past 30 years and this year marks the 25th anniversary of the store being Brisbane's number one Doc Martin stop.
Downes is the kind of store that still holds true to its history of individual, quality service - ‘from back in a time when people still smiled at each other on the street'. Originally Downes cobbled shoes from scratch, but it's nice to know you can still go to there today and get your soles mended and your keys cut.
